Whistler is the gateway to the beautiful Garabaldi Provincial Park and its wonderful mixture of remote wilderness backcountry, high mountains and beautiful river valleys. In the winter it's a must for ski touring and mountaineering.
There are also great opportunities to ski tour off the Duffy Lake road, one hour north of Whistler. There are numerous cabins to spend the night and great terrain to shred during the day. Most cabins are free of charge but can be quite busy on weekends, especially when the conditions are ideal.
Interested in fresh powder turns? Heliboarding operators in Whistler have access to mountains deep inside the Garabaldi Provincial Park. You can also take courses covering climbing and mountaineering, backcountry snowboard touring, glacier tours, ice climbing and wilderness trekking.
